Day 13 Pacific Crossing

All is well on board except for the fact that the water-maker pump just broke – cue dramatic arguments over the most efficient way to wash dishes. We have plenty of water still as we have been making water along the way, but our ability to keep our tanks topped up is now at an end. When we are not being overly conservative, we usually go through 8 gallons per day. We have almost 190 gallons still so it isn’t an emergency, more of an annoyance as finding potable water in the islands is sometimes very difficult and it could limit where we go and what we do. The sailing has been beautiful. The last two nights have been clear skies with the moon up and no lightning storms or rain squalls. The clouds during the day are all puffy and colorful like they were plucked out of a Thomas Moore painting. The winds have been powerfully pushing us along as you can see by our new daily distance traveled record! Sea state has gotten a bit rougher with the short chop from the south. We expected to see larger rolling seas and perhaps we still will, but for now, we are sailing a close reach in choppy seas which has made a few of us feel a little yucky again. We have been able to get almost full days of school in the last few days which has been a nice change. We started our study of French today in preparation for the Islands and the girls have been very efficient about getting into their work even before I am up for the day. Skins are a bit thin out here and a temper is just below surface. An Ocean passage certainly does give one ample opportunities to forgive and be forgiven. This is SV Banyan, signing off

Bonjour Vawters! We’re inspired and proud of your conviction! We just have to cross town to get to school or soccer and our skins and temper get thin at times… Hang in there! ☺️ You’re amazing and God’s pleased of your faithfulness I’m sure! Morgan got a ukulele to play with Adelaide. We need some online lessons. XOXOXO
